Echoes of starlight illuminate water-tuned glasses in Latvian composer Eriks Ešenvalds’ Stars. The light plays tricks on our perception of the season in Ernst Bacon’s Winter Afternoons. Haydn’s scintillating eighteenth-century Missa Sancti Aloysii interlaces with a secular centerpiece setting of Ron Jeffers’ Whitman “Credo.”
There’s a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons –
That oppresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes…When it comes, the Landscape listens –
Shadows – hold their breath.– Emily Dickinson
The light in Dale Trumbore’s Flare races through each mundane aspect of life as we know it, bursting with energy as it urges and spurs on the very forces of nature. The piece was co-commissioned by the PWC in 2012.
Lend your voice to our holiday sing-along set, and be surrounded by the luminous harmonies of Biebl’s Ave Maria.
